Could It Exist In Real Life? Silent Hill

Excuse me has anyone seen this game? About 4.75 inches in diameter, it runs on a PS1 Game Console and has a ton of scary shit in it.

  1. Nice to see the Silent Hill theme here. But are you sure that the game town is based on Centralia? The film town definitely is, but I've never heard or seen that the game town would also be based on it.

  2. Ya I'm sure. The town was rumored to be cursed. But many couldn't tell if it was the real deal, or the result of that never-ending fire.

    1. Where exactly did you get this info that the game town is based on Centralia? Did Konami confirm it? Then I might really miss something.

    2. Closest I could find again, was a small sentence in wikipedia on the article of the actual town. It was also the inspiration for a few Dean Koontz stories as well. Both of which believe in the town being a part of hell. Not a reliable source, but I'll take what I can get till I find a better one.

    3. For now, there's no more reliable sources than that, I also don't know any. But one thing I know for sure - the ex-inhabitants of Centralia are not satisfied with the face that their native town with a tragical history has become a part of Silent Hill mythology. If I remember it right, it was the mayor who expressed deep sorrow because of that. He watched the film, hearing that the town has inspired it, and was unpleasantly surprised, especially about the infamous beast Pyramid Head that is now often associated with the town because of the film.

  3. Well to be fair, their town wouldn't have been so fucked up had they not dig in the wrong place. That fog that's been rolling in, is smoke from a still never-ending fire in a mine they dug. It's better they know it as a haunted town rather than a town that nearly killed everyone.

    1. Sure, I know the town story and why things happened like they happened and how dangerous it is to be there, considering the risk of falling through the ground and be burnt alive. Despite that, there are people who take a risk and visit this place, motivated by "the real life Silent Hill" thought.

    2. True. You'd think the mayor would take the hint and use the town's negative history to make some money off it. Just enough so that they can prosper in a way different. The thing I liked about the game Silent Hill is that the town appeals to the soul of certain characters. If a character is an innocent person, they would see Silent Hill as this magical place who's beauty is unimaginable. Whereas someone who is guilty and feels the need to be punished for their sin/crime. They'd see the hell hole we know and love.

    3. Yes, this is an interesting aspect about the game franchise, that the town is like a reflection of each visitor's subconscious, which includes the monsters. It's the only case known to me, where the monsters depend directly on certain people and their mind.

    4. Exactly and if enough guilty people are connected, they battle each other's monsters in place of their own.

  4. The only exception, as I think, is Valtiel, my favourite monster of SH. As far as I understand, he's the archangel of God and doesn't depend on any human being's emotions or fear.

  5. One more thing. Maybe you also know it, but there's a widespread myth about the most famous (or actually infamous) monster of Silent Hill, Pyramid Head. Many speculate that this monster is a rapist, and if you played the second game, you know which moment I mean right now. I personally am sure that it's just a stupid meme that has spread among SH fans, just because someone thought that he committed the rape act. PH is a killer, but definitely NOT a rapist. And this article proves it: http://www.megabearsfan.net/post/2011/05/26/Is-Pyramid-Head-a-rapist.aspx

    1. Never heard of this one, but it's kinda half true. Pyramid Head is the embodiment of all of James' guilt for mercy killing his dying wife and his desire to be punished for it. It's why every time PH and Maria the embodiment of James' Dead Wife are in the same room together, PH Kills her. There is one potential Rape scene in the game, where PH was caught molesting one of the monsters while James was in hiding. Which also symbolizes Jams' repressed sexual desires, which he couldn't fulfill on his wife due to the latter dying. Same goes with Maria and the way she dresses and acts around James. She is what James wanted Mary to be like.

  6. Well, as I understood, Maria is the one that symbolizes his repressed sexual desires. And this scene with PH, the "rape" is purely symbolic, it's actually representation of masculine violence towards the feminine. He tortured and killed those Mannequin monsters. "Rape" is symbolic, but murder is obvious. I observe the situation when people write SH fanfiction and for most part PH is depicted as a rapist, and not in symbolic way, which annoys me. They make his rape whatever is moving and not connected to James in any way, and this is pure nonsense.
